Hair Professional Level 2

Course Duration:

Between 13 and 24 months

Course Outline

Training for all Apprentices will be work-based in a commercial salon, where they will work as part of the salon team, combined with training sessions at Westrow’s Academy. Apprentices will complete a level 2 standard in hairdressing, functional skills at level 1 in English and Maths, accompanied by an ‘Employment Rights and Responsibilities’ module. Alongside this, personal learning and thinking skills will also be developed.

The City and Guilds standard in Hairdressing covers a range of practical skills and relevant theoretical knowledge to prepare Apprentices for entry into the hairdressing industry. Practical work experience is an essential part of the course so employment within a salon is required with fortnightly visits to Westrow's training academy.

Course Content

To provide basic hairdressing skills in:

• Cutting Techniques
• Colouring Hair
• Perming
• Blow-drying / setting
• Client care and consultation
• Team working
• Record keeping
• Health and Safety

Enhancements

Additional modules are also available throughout the course, including, Dermatitis Prevention and Product Knowledge.

Assessment

During the course students will collect a portfolio of evidence for assessment. This will consist of written, oral and observational practice evidence.

Entry Requirements

• 2 GCSEs Grade C or above in English Language and Maths, alongside a design related subject.
• Evidence of appropriate work experience in a salon environment.
• An Apprenticeship will be offered following an interview.

• NVQ Level 4 in Hairdressing Management
